Denim, Industrial & Whites
Elite Dance Center awards a Performer of the Year and Most Promising Dancer of the Year at the conclusion of each competitive season in May. The tradition began the first year EDC opened its doors, September 2011. The dancers work and work and work and work all year to improve their performance, technique and execution in hopes of placing well at competition and improving their art form. Then, at the end-of-the-year Showcase, the instructors evaluate and announce who will be awarded the prestigious titles.
Christina Root, founder and owner, requested a photo shoot capturing past award winners to feature on the website, social media and promotional print collateral. I was tasked with location scouting, wardrobe styling and photographing these talented artists.
We shot in an abandoned building right off of Berry Street in Fort Wayne, Indiana. It was perfect because of its natural light and industrial vibes (I mean, look at those perfectly rusty steal beams and unkept windows). I wanted the dancers to have an urban, yet clean, look to juxtapose the setting, cue denims and whites.
